Recently, driven by multiple factors, including volatility in upstream crude oil markets and maintenance shutdowns at petrochemical production facilities, both spot and futures prices of polypropylene (PP) resin have risen consecutively. As a result, the woven plastic packaging industry is facing significant cost pass-through pressures. In China’s domestic spot market, prices for raffia-grade PP have already exceeded RMB 11,500 per metric ton.

Polypropylene accounts for the dominant share of raw material costs in the manufacturing of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs), commonly known as bulk bags or jumbo bags. Substantial fluctuations in base resin prices can therefore have cascading effects on downstream packaging production lead times and delivery reliability.

Given current market conditions, procurement teams are advised to plan ahead for production coordination and inventory management while maintaining budgetary discipline. Particular attention should be paid to two key considerations: raw material performance specifications and supply chain continuity.
